A good view of some of our high school buildings

A good view of some of our high school buildings

One of my junior year technical students took this picture without me asking him to.  I'm glad he did!  It's a great view of the oldest building of our school complex.  The building in the front right is the side of the chapel/library.  See all the free space there is!  To the right of where the photo was taken is a recent classroom building which has two floors with the science and other computer rooms.  We also have a big gym and a  track for athletics and games.

    The former chapel

    The former chapel

As you can see, this was the chapel.  A floor was built in it where there are classrooms with computers.  The ground floor is the library.

    St. Pierre High School courtyard

    St. Pierre High School courtyard

I haven't yet asked about the history of the buildings our school uses.  But you could imagine it was once a convent with this cloister like courtyard.  I walk through the arcade from the left to the right to go from the entrance of the school to the staff room.  Our school has a lot of property for school grounds for a school located in a French town.  It is very peaceful.

    Pierre Mendes France Pathway

    Pierre Mendes France Pathway

This tree-lined path runs more or less parallel to the rue de Lycée which is to the right.  I take this path when the weather is nice and dry.  It was so beautiful during the dry fall we had.  Many of the trees are maple trees which don't grow in Ardèche since it's too dry.  The leaves were beautiful in the fall.  The balls of leaves you can see at the top of the trees are mistletoe.   The buildings you see to the right are of the big public high school called Lalande.

Half-timbered houses from the 16th century

Half-timbered houses from the 16th century

These joined houses are at the beginning of the Rue du Lycée.  I just love looking at all this old archetecture.  I'd love to know some of the stories these buildings could tell about the families who have lived there during the past 500 years, and the sort of things they saw happen in the streets over the years. . .
